When Should You Drink Water?

An adequate intake of water is essential for daily life. A ton of problems can be linked to dehydration, some of these problems include weight gain and impairment of physical and mental skills.


To maximise your water intake, here are 12 tips to keep in mind:

  1. First thing in the morning: Hydrate!

Water in the morning helps you cleanse your body. It flushes out toxins, promotes digestion, and relieves constipation and bloating.

Extra tip: Drink warm water!

Warm water is better than cold water as processed cold water is devoid of essential minerals.


  1. Planning to lose weight? Drink up!

Warm water not only breaks down fat, it also increases your metabolic rate. The higher your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is, the lesser you weigh.

When you drink warm water, your body temperature raises temporarily and so does your BMR. As long as BMR is high, you burn more calories.


  1. Hydrate before you exercise

Trust me, you do NOT want to get dehydrated in the middle of a work out. Drink up!


  1. Hydrate after you exercise

You sweat when you work out, therefore your body throws away toxins via your sweat. Replenish the lost fluids by drinking up after a workout.


  1. Upset stomach?

Warm water aids your digestive health. Hydrate yourself more if you experience vomiting/diarrhoea as you lose more fluids when you are nauseated or have diarrhea.

Keep in mind: No cold drinks before meals. Chilled beverages are harmful during meals. They hamper your digestion and make it difficult to digest fats.
